WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The course is structured into three components; all of which are designed to offer you an insight into the creative industry and the vast styles of dance.

Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts - This unit requires you to critically analyse three performances and explore the practitioners processes practically. This unit requires focus, independent research and a positive attitude to learning. The assessment includes a written portfolio.

Component 2: Developing Skills & Techniques in the Performing Arts - As a ‘professional’ dancer, you will develop your physical, performance and choreography skills through industry like training and practitioner-based exercises. You will review your progress and perform in a final performance to a live audience.

Component 3: Responding to a Brief - This unit is assessed externally and will be a controlled assessment undertaken in the school’s theatre. You will be provided an industry brief by the awarding body; working in groups you will need to devise a performance based on the requirements of the brief. The assessment includes 2x logs and a written evaluation of your performance to a live audience.

Each unit is exciting, challenging and offers you the opportunity to experience the performing arts industry at a high level. The course requires students to have a real passion for the performing arts and the desire to understand both historical and contemporary works - There are both written and practical elements.
