Remembrance Assembly

Every year students take part in house assemblies to commemorate this important part of the school calendar. Senior prefects led the assembly reminding students about the origins of Armistice Day and Remembrance, the role of The Royal British Legion and how the poppy became its adopted symbol.

Year 11 student Amy Warr also shared the story of her Great Uncle, whose body was discovered seven years ago in Belgium as one of 7 World War I  soldiers , and how she and her family attended the reburial and rededication in 2014. Student members of Air, Sea and Army Cadets together with Scouts, Guides and St John's Ambulance also commemorated those who lost their lives during the conflict with a guard of honour and parade.

A minute's silence was observed in the assembly following a rendition of the last post by Head Boy, Sam Barnes-Thornton. On Armistice Day itself, the whole school observed 2 minutes silence at 11 o'clock.
