Springboard Future Chef Competition
Congratulations to Louie for winning the Somerset title for the Springboard Future Chef!! And well done to Abi for coming second! We are all very proud of you both
After winning the school heat of the Springboard Future Chef competition, the Year 11 students were invited to Petroc College in Devon for the Devon/Somerset final.
Louie won first place and the Somerset title, with Abi coming in a very close second - only 1-2 points in it!The chef judges were actually so impressed they requested to send both of them through to the next stage, but unfortunately there could only be one winner.
Louie's winning dish was a perfectly cooked duck breast with Asian flavours of pickled carrot ribbons, sweet potato and ginger mash with charred leeks, an orange, carrot and ginger puree and a show stopping beetroot tuile. The chefs said they would happily serve this dish on their restaurant menus!Abi made a dish of her own handmade pasta creation that was mushroom pesto stuffed tortellonis with a parmesan cream veloute sauce, basil oil and a pistachio garnish. It was a truly stunning plate of food.
Louie will now receive a professional chef mentor to help him to the next round of the South West final in January, where he has to now show developments on his duck dish.
We are very proud of both our students for the high quality of work, preparation, determination and perseverance they showed. They were a credit to our school. We wish them the best of luck and of course to Louie for the next round of this prestigious national competition!
