Equality & Diversity
We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive school. Having an open, equal environment is key to the success of our students.
Our Pride and Racial Equality groups meet regularly and have undertaken a number of projects to promote diversity across the school.
FLAIR - This project helps us to measure and build a racially equitable culture at Westfield Academy. Using staff and students surveys we are aiming to understand more about our key strengths and areas for development to ensure we are moving towards becoming a racial equitable organisation.
In 2023 we achieved our Bronze Award for Racial Equity with FLAIR. This aware signifies our school's commitment to tracking its racial equity year on year.
Elevation - We have been working with Elevation Coaching for individual staff CPD and on a brand new Inclusive Talk project, focusing on how we promote inclusive language and behaviours within our organisation.
The Black Curriculum - We have completed a curriculum audit with key teaching areas of Art, History, English and Personal Development to decolonise and diversify our curriculums.
Multicultural Day October - 2024
Westfield Together - Organised by the Staff Multicultural Group, this event celebrated the many diverse cultures, nationalities and backgrounds of our students and staff.
Students across Years 7 to 10 participated in a variety of cultural workshops including; African Drumming, Indian Dance, Black History Graphic Design, African Dance, Year of the Dragon Inkwork, Caribbean and Indian Cuisine, Mandarin, Filipino Parol Lanterns, Ukrainian / Polish Language, Martial Arts. Staff were also keen to get involved in the activities.
Student Race Equality Group - The group hold regular assemblies around the theme of Racial Equality.
